*Welcome new followers! Y’all like the theory behind boots. That was actually a bit of a random post as I’m in the middle of a 31 Days series; 31 Days of Weakness to be exact. Don’t worry, it’s not depressing! It’s actually very uplifting and fun. You can read the entire series, thus far, here. The truth is this thing was supposed to end on October 31, but alas, one of my weaknesses *for sure* is that I can not post 7 days a week so we are carrying forward until the 31 posts are over. It is one of my favorite series that I’ve written so far so I hope everyone is enjoying reading as much as I enjoy writing them.
Anyways, one of my favorite parts of interacting with new readers is that I stumble upon their blog (if they have one) and see what they are doing. And, lo and behold, this time around I came across The Better Man Project, which is all about the journey of one guy becoming a better man. (Heyyo – we need more like him!)
Well (I’m getting somewhere with this I promise) one of his posts asks for everyone to leave a comment including the best advice they ever received. So, as I eagerly clicked on the Reply button and got ready to type, I surprisingly realized that I don’t know the best advice I ever received!! I was shell-shocked. I searched pinterest, the abyss of my mind, and my soul to find that one important saying and I couldn’t identify it. I was sad.
I do, however, remember a couple of important things that affected me throughout the years. There’s not one that I could pinpoint as the best, but maybe, we don’t need it to be the best to make us better.
1. “Celebrate every year of your life.” – My mother
I was turning the ripe age of 20 when my mom gave me this advice. I was disappointed, at the time, that it was not my 21st birthday. I just wanted to get into bars legally! But, she is right. At the time, waiting 365 days to turn a year older felt like an eternity. Now, not so much. And as the bigger years are approaching, I’m ever more wanting to hold on to the small days. Remembering this saying comforts me. Another year just gives me another time to look around and be grateful for where I am at that moment.
2. Find your passion
- What is “it”?
- Find something!
I like to collect quotes. I noticed a couple of years ago that I have a lot of quotes on passion. I used to look at these and actually get depressed. Why? Because, at the time, I didn’t know my passion. It’s one thing to have one and to hold on. Sure, I knew I could do the holding, but what about the grabbing, the searching, the finding. I needed that to happen first.
That’s when I realized the point of all the quotes. It’s to go find it, Caitlin. Stop being so worried about not having it yet because the point is that you need to spend the time searching. And, no matter how long it takes you, it will be worth it.
3. “Surround yourself with those who are only going to lift you higher” -Oprah?
It’s been one of my favorite quotes since high school and it’s never failed me. Enough said.
*What’s the best advice you ever received? Or OK… maybe not the ‘best’, but any advice? ;)
